First Lady Sherry M. Hopgood

First Lady Sherry M. Hopgood

A beautiful woman of God, she walks quietly by her husband’s side in the ministry. Our First Lady, Sherry (the Pastor’s Wife) was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on October 2, 1951 to Mr. and Mrs. Lee N. Green and Ruby Green. She is the third child and only daughter born to this couple.

Sherry graduated from Capital High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Loving to do hair and make-up, she attended “Accredited School of Cosmetology” in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she studied to become a licensed beautician. One of her most favorite things to do is cutting and styling hair; and going shopping with her mother (Dill), as most everyone in the family affectionately call her.

Sherry and Pastor Hopgood have been married for 43 years. In addition to being First Lady of the Mount Horeb Baptist church family, her greatest joy is being the proud mother of Troy Sr., their only child; Dawn, her Daughter-in-law (who is more like a daughter), and being the loving and adoring grandmother (that she is) of three very handsome, intelligent, gifted and talented grandsons – Troy Jr., Julian and Quentin; each one of them are well on their way to doing great things in their chosen fields of work, and in the world.

A faithful and humble servant, Sherry has served diligently in all areas of the church’s ministry, wearing many different hats during the past 30 years of service. She has served as Sunday school teacher; Choir Director; Choir member; Mission Leader; Vacation Bible School Director; and yes, in any other area where needed, working harder as anyone else during those early days of ministry to help raise funds to support the young thriving church.

She is a precious jewel; an example to all of us on how to be a faithful servant.

I must do whatever is allowed by God to reach others with the gospel and to cultivate growth in them to maturity in Christ. Furthermore, I seek to equip the saints for the work of the ministry. “Everyone has a ministry” is the mentality all Christians must possess. Finally, evangelists are who we are as Christians; meaning that evangelism is more than just something we participate in once a week, month, year, or lifetime.
